Recently we went to the Field Museum in Chicago. They have a tremendous NA exhibit. It was so cool to see a parfleche, diorama of the fishing for salmon, mannequins wearing Nez Perce clothing and other stuff. We were so busy this summer that I had forgotten I had pics, which I just found.
I'll be pretty distracted for the next couple of days but I'll try to get an album up of everything.
What reminded me was seeing this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Playmobi...QQcmdZViewItem Maybe all teepees were made like this? I don't know, but this is how Kaya's teepee is made structurally.
That's probably a bad idea, huh? Browsing eBay to distract myself from Katrina? I've already BIN a Playmobil Santa set.

Wow! DD had to make an indian dwelling last year in school. It sure would have been nice to have had all the "extras" to sit around.
I can't start searching too much on ebay. I'll get myself in way too much trouble!

Yup. Teepees all have the same basic construction. There may be some slight regional variation depending on smoke hole location and the like, but they are generally very similar.
The main variation is in the manner of covering. The Nez Perce, if I recall, used tule mats, but others used various hides.
I love Kaya. As I sew new pow wow outfits for myself, I also plan outfits for her. I am hoping to make her some new outfits if I can find small jingles. I'd make them myself but with classes beginning, I've hit a lazy spell.
